Will you read me a story?

Will you read me a story?

This exciting topic will take us into a magical fairytale world of princes and princesses, elves and ogres, bears and giants. We will read many fairy and traditional tales where everyone lives 'happily ever after.' We will dress up as fairy tale characters and act out our favourite stories. We will make porridge and gingerbread men and we will dress the elves.

It promises to be a magical few weeks in the reception class!

What a great topic it has been. We read and acted out many traditional tales including Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Gingerbread Man and The Elves and the Shoemaker. We have retold stories orally, written caption and sentences to go with the stories, speech bubbles for the various characters and descriptions. We have looked at different versions of traditional tales and made connections. In 'Understanding the World' we had great funny making our own porridge. We had to explore how to make it 'just right.' We enjoyed eating the porridge very much too! We also enjoyed investigating what would happen happen if the gingerbread man went in the river! Our beanstalks grew really well and we are now looking after them at home - some have reached through the clouds to the Giant's castle! (or so the children tell me!)

In Expressive Arts and Design we made our own Gingerbread Men and designed shields, crowns and princess dresses.

To finish off the topic we had a fantastic Fairytale tea party. The costumes were fantastic, as was the dancing!

We hope you enjoy the photos.
