Welcome to Mexico! Wow! What a creative and fascinating time Year 6 have had learning all about Mexico! During this topic, the children explored this unique country, from its towering temples and stunning geography to its pulsing rhythms and fun-packed festivals. We also had a visit from Simon who is an explorer of the Maya's!
Year 6 started their topic by having an explorer day! The children had a visit from Simon the Explorer who taught us about the history of the Maya's, where the Maya's lived, team work skills the Maya's had to do and other interesting facts! Throughout this topic, the children also discovered the mysterious world of the ancient Maya civilisation by looking at their Gods, Religions, Numbers, Writing, Food and how they were discovered. Also, the children created their own Aztec tiles!
Year 6 celebrated the end of their topic by virtually and in the classroom dressing up for Day of the Dead. During this traditional festive day, the children dressed up, designed information posters about Day of the Dead posters and had a party full of music and dance! In Design and Technology, using woodworking materials and skills, we construct a window display using an automata mechanism; measuring and cutting materials, assembling the frame, choosing cams, designing the characters that sit on the followers and also finishing with a foreground and background.
