Why do zebras have stripes?

Why do Zebras have stripes? Where do lions live? We will be exploring these questions and more in this exciting project about Africa, the people and wild animals that live there. We will be learning about African culture and way of life, wild animals and the camouflage they use. We will be contrasting the life of a child in Tanzania with our life in Goldenhill.

We have loved this topic! It has been so interesting learning about African animals, going on Safari and learning about the life of the Maasi tribe. We wold love to go to Africa and see if we can spot the big 5 though some of us thought it might be a bit scary in case the animals bit them! We have read some great books - Maasi and Me, We're Going on a Lion Hunt, Elmer, Handa's Surprise, as well as lots of stories based on African animals. we have loved singing Kye Kye Kula, an African call and response song and adding our own drum beats. We have made African prints, made African jewelry and redesigned animal skins. We have loved learning about how and why animal use camouflage. It has been a very interesting topic and we have learned loads. We rounded the topic off by having Elmer Day. Here are a few pictures of us and our work.
