Me and My Community, Exploring Autumn

Me and My Community

This project supports children with settling into the new rules and routines of school life. It encourages them to make new friends and feel confident in their class. It teaches children about being helpful, kind and thoughtful at home and at school. This project also teaches children how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.

Exploring Autumn

This project teaches children about the natural changes that happen during the season of Autumn, including how the weather changes, why trees lose their leaves and how wild animals prepare for winter.

We had a great half term learning all about the different communities we belong to. We have thought about what makes a good friend and how we can work and play together. We know how to care for the different communities we belong to. We have enjoyed learning about 'People Who Help Us' in our communities. We have dressed up as firefighters and police officers and role played rescuing people. We helped to look after our teddies in the teddy bear hospital.

As part of the Autumn mini topic we have looked at the changes that happen this season. We have been on Autumn walks and made collages. We have explored different coloured leaves, conkers and acorns. We know about animals that hibernate and what they do to get ready for the long winter. We also learned about birds that migrate and how animals collect food to prepare for the colder months. We have enjoyed a range of fiction and non fiction books about squirrels, hedgehogs, bears, foxes and bats. We have produced some excellent art work using collage, paint, dough, pastels and chalks. We hope you enjoy looking at our displays.
