Me and My Community, Exploring Autumn

Me and My Community

This project supports children with settling into the new rules and routines of school life. It encourages them to make new friends and feel confident in their class. It teaches children about being helpful, kind and thoughtful at home and at school. This project also teaches children how they are unique and special, the importance of friendship and how people in their family, school and local community are important and can help them.

Exploring Autumn

This project teaches children about the natural changes that happen during the season of Autumn, including how the weather changes, why trees lose their leaves and how wild animals prepare for winter.

The children have really enjoyed both these topics and have produced some fantastic work. We are really beginning to learn how to take care of each other and our community. We have particularly enjoyed learning about People Who Help Us and had a great afternoon when the Teddy Bear Hospital visited. We have read lots of stories about friendships and families.

We have been looking closely at the changes Autumn has brought. We collected lots of Autumnal artefacts on our Autumn walks with our families and have used them to do drawings, rubbings and explored floating and sinking. We have learned about animals that hibernate throughout the winter and what they have to do to prepare themselves. We have also investigated which foods would last all winter for squirrels to store away - we have seen a lot of mould!
