Literacy

Reading, writing, speaking and listening are very importnant in our curriculum. Please continue to read daily with and to your child. Remember that understanding and talking about the story is just as important as reading the words. Talk about the characters, setting, make predictions about what might happen, ask the children to retell or act out the story. If you have limited or no access to books at home there are some great resources on line. Oxford Owl is an excellent site which has a number of e books free to access. I think you have to register as a parent but much of the content is free. There are also links to other areas of the curriculum, games and activities.

It is important that the children do some writing each day. They could keep a diary of what they have been doing, though this may be limited! They could write daily weather reports or retell their favourite stories. Many of the children love making little books. Please encourage correct letter formation. I have included some sheets here to show correct formation of each letter. There are many more sheets like this on line, especially on twinkl (see website page for password.) Handwriting takes place daily in class for about 10 minutes.
