Magnificent Monarchs

This project teaches children about the English and British monarchy from AD 871 to the present day. Using timelines, information about royal palaces, portraits and other historical sources, they build up an understanding of the monarchs and then research six of the most significant sovereigns.

We will be writing and explaining who we think is the most significant sovereign from the past and present justifying our reasons through their impact, power and using different historical models to help us.

We will also be mapping different royal residences on a map of the UK and what makes the royal residence so special.

Please see below our topic web for information on each subject for Year 2 this term.

Wow Starter

We were extremely lucky and we had a tour around Buckingham Palace. From this, we were able to guess what our new topic was going to be about. We discussed why a King or Queen may live here and what clues there were. We talked about the different jobs that would need to go on behind the scenes and what job we would like to do at the palace. Some children preferred to be the royalty that lived there!
